Cops suspended over South Africa cabbie drag death


South African Taxi Driver handcuffed to back of police van

SOUTH Africa has suspended eight cops in response to sickening footage of a taxi driver being dragged along a road by a police van.

Cabbie Mido Macia was found dead in a cell after being handcuffed to the vehicle after officers forced him to the ground.
Cops are accused of beating the driver to death after he was arrested for parking on the wrong side of the road in Daveyton, near Johannesburg.
Shocking footage of Mido's arrest has gone viral on the internet.

A murder probe has been launched into his death and South Africa's Police Service (SAPS) announced it will hold an internal investigation into cops' behaviour.
This morning, national police commissioner, General Riah Phiyega said the attack would be abhorred by all "right-thinking people".
She said: "It was extreme shock and outrage that we witnessed the incident in Daveyton.
"From the video which has gone viral it is obvious that the rights of MM were violated in the most extreme form

"The behaviour displayed in the video, when it is committed by police whom I expect to serve and protect, is to be abhorred by all right-thinking people
"We would like to assure the country, the world, that what was in the video is not how SAPS in South Africa goes about its work."
General Phiyega announced eight officers would be suspended while the investigation is undertaken.
