Royal fail: Great-gran's 100th birthday card from Queen arrives six hours AFTER she dies

The staunch royalist was desperate to receive the greeting but sadly died before the lunchtime post turned up on her milestone birthday

Tragic: Clara Asquith was a strong monarchist

A great-gran looking forward to her 100th birthday card from the Queen died hours before it arrived.
Clara Asquith’s health was failing but she was desperate to receive the greeting.
Sadly, the staunch royalist died before the lunchtime post turned up on her milestone birthday last week.
Daughter, Maureen Hepplestone, 79, said: “It’s sad. It would have meant so much.
"Mum died around 6am and the mail came at midday.
“She just used to say, ‘I’ll live to be 100 and to get my letter’.
“Mum used to write letters to the Queen Mother about all sorts.
"It’s such a shame she never got to see the card but I’m going to frame it.”
Clara, who was living at a care home in Golcar, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, died on February 20.
She was married to Herbert Asquith, who died on the eve of his 70th birthday.
Clara also had nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
